The New Look and Word Press
After two weeks of looking for a new theme, finally the weblog has a new look! My weblog is built on Word Press (WP) engine, a content management system (CMS) similar to blogger or Drupal. I chose it because it has a very user-friendly interface and also limited as opposed to Drupal, it’s a good choice for a blog. What I usually do is choose a theme that’s close to what I like and then modify it because designing one from the scratch could take days to make prefect as it has to be designed according to WP requirements. You can just register with WP website and use it like blogger or use your own host to build a standalone weblog fully independent from WP but still get their updates.
In order to install WP on your host, your hosting you should have PHP and database support and the rest is easy! All you need to do is downloading the latest version of WP and copy it to your website! There’s a ninstallation wizard to guid you through the rest! and then you will have access to your CMS’s control panel. There are many templates and plug-ins available for WP and with a just little knowledge of HTML and CSS you can adopt them to suit your needs.
If you need more flexibility and want to have a better user management system or things like forum, Drupal would be the ideal choice! but to be able to use Drupal you need to know more about HTML and CSS and a little PHP and you won’t get away by just installing it and adding a template! There are also commercial versions of CMS more customized for a specific use but usually they are too expensive for what they do and you can achive what’s been done with them using Drupal or other open source content management systems.
